Ellis of Billings. According to the old registration receipts dating back to the mid 1970's this car spent quite a bit of time in the Harlowton area and was owned by Ethel G. Johnson until around 1981. About that time Dr. Ellis purchased the car and used it until around the time it was last registered in 1985. This car may have spent its whole life in this area of the country. Prior to getting the car it hadn't been run for a long time. The engine turned over freely so I decided to try and start it. With a battery, remote fuel source, and some primer gas, the car started right up and was in good running shape. To get the car road worthy I had to replace the tires, repair a small leak in the top radiator tank, and rebuild the brake system. For quite engine operation I adjusted the solid lifters to specifications and also replaced the weak starter motor with a rebuilt unit. As you see, this car retains a lot of originality under the hood. Since this Plymouth is a very basic fleet special Series four door sedan with a spot light and small hubcaps, I decided to convert it to a period replica police car. As we know many law enforcement vehicles of this era were base model 4 door sedans with V8 engines. The restoration was completed over the period from late 2001 to mid 2002.Mechanical: The peppy engine starts and runs great. The transmission shifts nice like "Torqueflight" automatics should (the push button transmission controls with "Park" lever are located to the left of the instrument cluster.) The car handles and rides very well on the road with its installed radial tires. All the other mechanical components seem to function as they should, including the strong heater system for those cooler days. Also all the electric items seem to work fine, from the gauges to the factory AM radio. I've driven this car on several occasions with the longest being over 100 miles round trip during July. It has never had any problems and has been 100 percent reliable for me.
